Lesson 7 - Principle 11

I SOUGHT THROUGH PRAYER AND MEDITATION ON GOD’S WORD TO INCREASE MY FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM, PRAYING CONTINUALLY FOR THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL FOR ME AND THE POWER OF HIS MIGHT TO ACCOMPLISH IT.

James 4:8 states, Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. As I continue to pray and meditate, I will become more attuned to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Someone once said, “Prayer is talking to God and meditation is listening to Him.” I meditate by reading God’s Word and then think about it, turning it over in my mind until the Holy Spirit reveals its meaning to me.

Once God begins revealing to me what His will for me is in my life, I must continue to seek His direction and the power needed to carry it out. I will discover as I practice this principle how powerfully the Holy Spirit will work in my life and that the “Good News of Salvation” will have an ever-increasing reality and value to me.

Proverbs 4:20-22 My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.

In this scripture, a standard of conduct is laid out for us to heed. We are told to give attention to God’s Word. We are to pay attention, become sensitive to, and learn to respond in obedience to its directives. We are also given the word picture of leaning into, to try to listen harder, and by paying closer attention to, through the word incline. We are to focus on God’s Word continually and never allow it to depart from our sight. Does this mean we are always to have a Bible in front of our face? It means that the eyes of our heart are to be before the Word to steer us from sin.
